Sexercising, better known as exercise while having sex

Fitting regular exercise into your busy routine isn't easy and a month’s gym membership can go to waste because of that. What you might not know is that you’ve been getting regular exercise every time you have sexy time with your partner. The more challenging a sex position is, the more exercise you get. Read on and find out which muscles get toned from the seven different sexual positions we’ve listed down.

Cowgirl

Being on top definitely gets the thighs working, but to really feel the burn, get off your knees and onto your feet and use the muscles in your thighs and bum to control your thrusts, leaning back onto your hands to work the upper arms as well. The idea is to use as much of your body as possible to get those calories burning while toning specific body parts.

Missionary

A full 22 per cent of couples admit to only have tried the missionary position, but for maximum workout potential, creativity's the name of the game. Make sure that you have the same thrust back as your partner which will require you to use your core strength. In addition, the more you squeeze your buttocks when you move in his direction towards, more muscles get toned.

Doggy

Not only does this position work your core, but if you go down onto your elbows rather than remain on all fours, you will also be working on your triceps. For a good upper body workout, put your hands on a wall in front of you and help him thrust. You will also be toning your bottom as you brace yourself against the impact.

Arch

While you lie on your back, bend your legs to hold and support your lower body off the bed while resting on your shoulders. In this position your will be working your thighs, calves, your core muscle and your glutes. If you are brave enough to go up onto your arms as well to support yourself (like a bridge you will also be working your biceps and triceps). It’s not one of the easiest positions but resting on your shoulders take half the pain away.

Standing

While this is one of the more difficult positions because your partner has to hold you up, a small variation can make this a lot easier and a good workout. Your partner needs to lean back against a wall holding you while you straddle him, but you can use one leg hooked around his legs or hips for balance. Both of you can then rock together than it’s just him doing all the work. With he holds your thighs, work your abdominal muscles to move. If you want to work your waistline, rotate your hips in a circular motion.

Rocking chair

While your partner sits on a chair with his legs outstretched in front of him, climb on top and stretch your legs out straight behind him. Get him to hold your arms and lean back holding on to him for support. Since you're in control, push back and forth on top of him as fast or as slow as you like. If you find this difficult then you can support yourself by placing your feet on a solid surface and use your legs to help you rock back and forth. This will work your arms and your thighs.

Scissors

This is the least strenuous of all the positions, typically because there is no suspension of the body weight and is one of the more passive sex positions. However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t be working any muscles. With your legs intercrossed with your partner's, there's limited movement for both the man and woman, so you will both be doing a lot of inner-thigh work and of course your core muscles will be at use therefore working your abs.
